Timber washed down by the sea, things discarded and forgotten; all the objects in this exhibition have been carefully collected and reclaimed by each artist.  Imbued with life’s energy, found objects hold our desires and mark the passage of time as a continuum of process and renewal.

The driftwood forms that Thurlow creates represent a human longing for reclamation; travelers through time looking for meaning.  The work was conceived while Artist in Residence at Gros Morne National Park, where the Newfoundland driftwood came to feel evocative of the courageous and indomitable Maritime character. These marginal figures ‘soldiering on’, pruned, glued, with replaceable limbs, appear as spirit creatures, each with a message,  from a world of dreams and imagination.
